The Flat, circa 1986-7

L to R, F to B: Steve Schrom, Bob Castro, Nancy Riffe-Seckinger, Charles Steward, ? and yours truly.

After getting off Concord's meal plan due to my "peptic ulcer" (thanks Sharif!), the next step in enjoying college life was to get an apartment off-campus. The result was "The Flat," we being enamored of all things British.

Many memorable parties followed (Steve - can you scan those flyers for me?), as did many tales of love and loss. Plus some fun visits by our landlord's toadie.

This shot was taken on the steps of the flat sometime in the spring of '88, I think. Anyone have a better idea?

The summer of our wasted youth, Part 4, 1986-7

The last in the series of the Shammaa pool party. It appears that Charlie and I have had a few too many. Time for a nap.

The Summer of our wasted youth, Part 3, 1986-7

The master of ceremonies, Sharif Shammaa, and barely pictured to his left, Steve Schrom.

I remember proclaiming on that day that Dos Equis Amber was the greatest beer the world.

The Summer of our wasted youth, Part 2.

Nancy Riffe-Seckinger & Charles Steward, poolside at the Shammaa's, circa 1988. Artsy, ain't it?

Sharif & Tariq Shammaa's parents live 30 minutes or so from Concord, so we frequented their place quite often. These photos were taken in what was the last year we would all be together as the old gang. Graduations, relationships, jobs, etc. contrived to pull us apart. The great news is, almost twenty years later, we're all still in touch....

Ah, the summer of our wasted youth, Part 1.

The Concord gang travels to Huntington!

In 1985 or '86, Charles Steward, Nancy Riffe, Chris Boggess, Torie Huntington, Beth Frazier and myself travelled to Marshall University to attend a graphic arts symposium entitled "Influences."

Much hilarity ensued, due in part to the bottle of Absolut that we chilled in the back of the toilet.

Jim Coiner, our professor at Concord College, now the University (ahem), stopped by the room dressed in grim reaper garb. I'll try to track down that incriminating photo.

Click on the photo to see it full-size. More in this series to come!

2004 NYC Pics

Welcome Dash Whisner

Dash is the newest addition to the Whisner family. We adopted him from the Georgetown SPCA. He's about 5-6 months old, and is a Golden Retreiver/Hound mix, we think. More pics to follow...
